Introduction

I'm just getting my feet wet with birding. I've ordered the Peterson Field Guide for Eastern Birds, along with the companion audio CD. I came upon my interest in birding as a natural extension of my photography hobby. Please read on to see how I'm developing as a birder.

Journal

May 1 2004 - I woke up early this morning and drove to Glen Helen to see the sunrise. I seemed to have the park to myself at dawn, and was privileged to stand within about twenty yards of a couple of deer that quietly crossed the path. I also saw (but did not photograph) a male Cardinal and a Great Blue Heron at close range. After about an hour I drove to the Beavercreek wetlands where I saw what I believe is either a Indigo Bunting or a Blue Bunting as well as yet another species of woodpecker.

April 25 2004 - This Sunday I made a trip to the Beavercreek Wetlands fen, and spent a couple hours creeping around in search of wildlife. I was not dissappointed. Along the way I had the pleasure of meeting Jim Amon, a Beavercreek Wetlands Association board member, during his search for an Oriole. Though we didn't see the Oriole, I have no right to complain over the sights this Sunday. Here are the highlights of this trip:
